EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION For more than a century the American Association of University Women (AAUW) has been committed to expanding educational opportunities for women, working to forge a more equitable environment for women of all races, creeds, ages and nationalities. Critical to this effort is the work of the Educational Foundation (EF), which was established in 1958 as a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, but was actually an outgrowth of a presentation of graduate fellowships begun in 1883. Since then more than 7,000 women from about 120 nations have received funding to pursue their personal and professional goals. The Foundation, which is one of the largest private sources of funding for graduate women in the world, supports scholars, teachers and activists in local communities, and those pursuing professions where women are underrepresented. Our fellows and grant recipients are providing leadership in our efforts to promote education and equity for women and girls, thereby benefiting society as a whole. For more information contact AAUW.
AAUW LEGAL ADVOCACY FUND The major focus of the Legal Advocacy fund (LAF) is equity in granting tenure and promoting women faculty in colleges and universities. Recently LAF has expanded its scope and is awarding stipends to colleges and universities for efforts in many areas, including women's athletics, improving benefits for faculty, students and staff, combating sexual harassment, mentoring students and junior faculty, integrating women's studies into curricula, and recruiting women into non-traditional fields.
